Every one of our amethyst skulls for sale is carved by hand from a single piece of natural stone. Each skull is photographed and filmed individually, so the colour, markings and character you see belong to the exact piece you receive.
Natural amethyst varies far more than photographs of polished gemstones might suggest. It can range from soft lilac and translucent violet to deep, saturated purple. Some pieces contain distinct colour zoning, clear or milky quartz areas, natural inclusions or the white banding found in chevron amethyst. These features make every carving recognisably its own.
We select our amethyst rough here in Brazil, looking not only at colour but at the complete stone: its structure, translucency, natural patterns and potential shape. Darker amethyst is not automatically better. Deep purple can look rich and dramatic, while lighter or more translucent material may reveal greater depth, internal reflections and flashes of light. Chevron amethyst has a completely different appeal, with natural white quartz bands creating bold patterns across the finished skull. The carving matters just as much as the material. Our carvers work with the individual shape and character of the rough rather than forcing every stone into an identical design. The result may be a traditional skull, a shaman-style carving or something more unusual, but it will always be an individual piece rather than a mass-produced copy.

Yes. Every skull is carved from natural amethyst rather than purple glass, resin or reconstituted material. Natural colour zoning, inclusions, quartz areas and variations in transparency are part of the individual stone and can be seen in the photographs and video for each skull.
Not necessarily. Strong, saturated purple is highly sought after, but depth of colour is only one quality. A lighter amethyst may have better translucency, more visible internal detail or especially attractive natural zoning. Chevron amethyst is valued for its distinctive white banding rather than colour depth alone. The best choice is the skull whose particular combination of colour, pattern and carving appeals to you.
The main factors are its size, the quality and character of the original stone, the richness and distribution of its colour, its transparency and the complexity of the carving. Large pieces of attractive carving-grade amethyst are harder to source, while detailed or unusual designs require considerably more work. The price shown above is for the exact skull pictured.

Amethyst has traditionally been associated with calm, clarity, meditation and spiritual awareness. Some collectors choose an amethyst skull for these symbolic qualities, while others are drawn primarily to the stone’s purple colour, natural patterns or the skill of the carving.
Amethyst needs very little maintenance. Dust it gently or wipe it with a soft, slightly damp cloth when necessary. Avoid harsh cleaning products, sudden temperature changes and prolonged exposure to strong direct sunlight, which can gradually affect the colour of some amethyst. Keep heavier skulls on a stable surface where they cannot be knocked or dropped.
